The incident occurred last Monday, inside the family’s home, when the wife of the 50-year-old defendant asked for 20 euros to pay for the private lessons of their 13-year-old child.
“He told me that he has no money and that I should go to work to earn money. There was a commotion and he got up to hit me. Our son stepped forward to stop him and grabbed him by the collar, by the arm and threw him down,” the woman told the judges, stressing that this is not the first incident of domestic violence involving her and their minor son. . “Me and the child are afraid, we don’t know how he will react. I have filed another complaint last month and I have reached the point of hiding all the knives in the house because we are afraid,” testified the wife, stressing that she made many concessions to “save” her family.
Apologizing, the 50-year-old admitted that he tried to hit his son. “She was cursing and threatening and I told her to go get a job,” he said of his wife and added: “The violence is not just from my side, she doesn’t respect anything.” At another point, he mentioned that he himself ate wood as a child, while commenting “what’s done is done”.
