The exhibits… will come out of the showcases and appear in 3D in front of the visitors’ eyes

A great donation from a company of a wealthy Cretan business family seems to be launched for the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, as had revealed last January, in the show “Elefthero Simeio” of “CRETE TV”, the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Joakim Gryspolakis Museum.

This is a large donation of several millions, which will be allocated as part of the upgrading of the Museum’s exhibits, as an effort is being made with the assistance of the Educational Institutions of Crete to present the exhibits as holograms to the eyes of Museum visitors. For example, an exhibit that is “lost” to the eye in the multitude of showcases can emerge from the showcase as a hologram and appear in three-dimensional dimensions before the visitors’ eyes, rotated and viewed from 360 degrees.

In fact, according to Mr. Gryspolakis, there is advanced collaboration between AMI, ITE, the University of Crete and the Technical University of Crete, for the signing of a five-year cooperation memorandum for the modernization of the exhibition method with holograms, the digitization of the exhibits for use in educational programs, the maintenance with modern and innovative methods and the utilization of innovative ideas of students of the two university institutions. The financing of a large amount of the Program Contract is done with the noble sponsorship of a company.

The issue of the donation has already been officially raised in the Board of Directors. of the new NPDD of the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion and it is something that is already being discussed, but so far, although there are rumors about the company that will allocate the large amount, its name has not been made known, at the request of its owners.

New store

At the same time, another important donation has been made to the Museum and concerns the financing for the manufacture of objects which will be sold at the new Museum shop.

The items for sale will have motifs inspired by the frescoes of Knossos, which are exhibited at the AMH, and already with the donation from a private person, the items for sale are being prepared, which will be ready for sale to visitors from May.

It should be mentioned that the new Museum shop will open in November 2024 in the former EOT pavilion, 200 sq.m., on two levels, while the Municipality of Heraklion will proceed with upgrading the public space, in order to unify the Museum with the shop.

Opposite the AMH is the Epigraphic Collection, which is inactive. In collaboration with the Municipality of Heraklion, there will be integration with the Archaeological Museum building, so that it can be utilized and accessible to visitors.

It is recalled that, as revealed for the first time last January by the show “Free Point” of “CRETE TV”, in the space that operates today the refreshment room inside the Museum it will be able to work upgraded restaurant with independent entrance from Doukos Beaufort Street.
