Frigate Hydra shot down drone in Gulf of Aden – Gunfire

In the demolition of an enemy drone the frigate HYDRA proceeded to the Gulf of Aden today.

According to an informal information from GEETHA, today Thursday, April 25, 2024 and in the morning hours in the Gulf of Aden, the Frigate HYDRA as part of the EUNAVFOR ASPIDES operation, providing protection to a merchant ship, fired a cannon at two Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), in accordance with the applicable Rules of Engagement, one of which was shot down and the other driven away.

The frigate continues its mission normally.


It is recalled that the HYDRA frigate, providing protection to a commercial ship, had on March 13 fired a cannon at 2 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), which were removed.

It is noted that the Greek frigate “Hydra” is part of an EU naval group in the context of Operation “Shields”, which aims to safeguard maritime security and ensure freedom of navigation, especially for merchant ships, in the region where numerous Houthi attacks have targeted international merchant ships since October 2023.
