Not a little, not much, the evidence shows that the “yellow” scenery of Tuesday (23/4/24) was created by the “most intense African dust event” ever recordedespecially for Athens according to Thodoris Kolidas.
According to him, similar incidents have been recorded on the following dates:
March 7, 1902
March 28, 1931
April 23, 1965
April 14, 2008
May 21, 2008
April 17, 2005
Also, there are data for 2/25/2001, 2/24/2006, 3/6/2009, 5/21/2008 and 11/10/2010.
“My personal opinion is that, especially for Athens, it is the most intense event” characteristically writes Thodoris Kolidas.
Why was such a “yellow” landscape created?
“A big role was played by the fact that there was no rain – as it usually happens – so the dust was not “washed out” and remained suspended in the atmosphere for a long time. The “spooky” color was created due to the scattering of light, where an important role was played by the time when the maximum transfer occurred, which coincided with the sunset” writes Thodoris Kolidas.
According to the meteorologists, however, the African dust is already “leaving” our country, leaving behind it, apart from the unprecedented images, and… yellow balconies and cars.
The Ministry of Health, however, recommends that people with respiratory problems, heart patients, young children and those over 65 years of age still make limited movements and wear a mask.
