Volkswagen is recalling 368,173 Eos, Golf, Golf Plus, Golf Cabrio, Sharan, Passat CC, Passat, Polo, Fox, Vivo Classic and Crafter manufactured between 2005 and 2017 due to defective Takata airbags.

In Greece the recall affects 12,417 Polo, Passat, T5, Up, Fox, Crafter, Golf and Beetle and according to the manufacturer, in the affected vehicles, which have a driver’s side frontal airbag from the manufacturer Takata of a limited production period, there is the possibility due to increased air humidity and temperature fluctuations to cause damage to the propellant (risk of damage to the gas generator cover if the driver’s airbag is activated).

Consequently, in the event of an accident with the driver’s frontal airbag being activated, metal fragments may be detached from the generator housing (cover) and injure vehicle occupants.

So far, in Greece, no case of an accident has been reported, related to this specific issue. The owners of the above vehicles will be informed in writing to come to the nearest Authorized Repairer of the Service Volkswagen AG Partner network of the KOSMOCAR AE company, in order, and without any financial burden, to replace the gas generator/driver’s airbag unit.

For more information and/or clarifications, interested parties are requested to contact the Volkswagen AG Customer Service Department on the phone 210 9981100 from 09.00 – 18.00 daily or by email: [email protected].
