THE Minister of the Interior, Niki Kerameospraised the European Commission’s Technical Assistance Tool (TSI) in Greece’s reform process and pointed out that TSI is a tool that provides expertise tailored to the needs of EU member states, in order to design and implement reforms with long-term benefits .

During her speech at the European Commission’s annual conference organized by the European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Eliza Ferreira and DG REFORM entitled “TSI: Reforms with impact. Together we are stronger“, N. Kerameos

Speaking at the keynote panel on “Supporting European Union reforms for the future» together with E. Ferreira and ministers from other member states, N. Kerameos brought as an example of the utilization of the TSI by our country, the application of an artificial intelligence tool that gives feedback to heads of the State on whether the objectives they have set in the context of the annual evaluation are quite specific and contain the required quantitative and qualitative data.

Target setting is an extremely critical mechanism for the continuous improvement of civil servants. We leveraged technical assistance to build an AI tool which filters over 100,000 civil servant targets and gives them feedback on how goals can be made more specific, time-bound, with measurable datahe characteristically said.

At the same time, the minister put forward indicative proposals that could be used in the future by the European Commission to improve the Technical Support (TSI) framework, such as prioritizing the funding of proposals elaborated in depth and with a tangible impact on public administration and the integration of TSI at an earlier stage, during the formulation of reforms and related policies.

N. Kerameos noted that the Greek government succeeded in reversing the negative course of the country based on the triptych: Reforms – Staff State – Support – Citizen Efforts. He even mentioned that the government has to demonstrate, among other things, the passing of almost 500 bills within a period of 5 years and the implementation of a new model of organization and administration, the staff state.

At the same time, he pointed out that Greece made exemplary use of the TSI both in the implementation of reforms and in the reorganization and reformation of the functioning of the state.

None of this would have happened without the support of the Greek people at every step of the way. Many of these reforms remained unthinkable for decades» said the minister characteristically.

Finally, N. Kerameos underlined that Greece is the first country to absorb technical support projects in the EUmore than 200 projects in the last five years, while for the current year the European Commission approved for Greece 23 projects through TSIin a total of 167 projects across the European Union, with funds corresponding in Greece to 10% of the total EU-wide TSI support.

Our ultimate goal is to better serve citizens, to provide better services to citizens. We must never forget that citizens are the ultimate beneficiaries of TSI assistance, and we must always emphasize the importance of citizen-centric approaches“, said N. Kerameos.
