On Thursday, KOSMOS presents the European ballot in a central Athens hotel ahead of the June 9 European elections.

At the event, the account of the term of Petros Kokkalis in the European Parliament will be presented, as well as the National Green Agreement, which is the proposal of the WORLD in view of the European elections.

Sources from the party of Petros Kokkalis state that in the WORLD “there is great optimism ahead of the European elections, as the staff of the newly formed green party are constantly receiving encouraging messages that they can be the surprise of the ballot box on June 9”.

At the same time, party officials note that the composition of the European ballot is proof that KOSMOS brings something completely different to the country’s political scene, as on the one hand it signals the necessary unity of the ecological space and on the other hand all 42 candidates have proven knowledge and experience in science, culture, the green movements, self-government and professional athletics.

After all, Petros Kokkalis, who is running for re-election, was one of the most active Greek MEPs of the past five years, highlighting a series of issues both for ecology and the rule of law.

Particular importance is attached to the equal representation of the sexes, as the KOSMOS ballot is the only one of the European elections where women form the majority. Specifically, of the 42 candidates, 23 are women. Among them is Evdokia Tsagli, a survivor of the Tempe accident who has developed strong action for the justice of the victims of the tragedy and the rule of law more broadly. Also on the list is Vasiliki Grammatikogianni, co-president of “Greens-Ecology”, who responded to the call of KOSMOS and will participate in the ballot with a total of 8 members.

Very high on the agenda are the issues of sexual orientation

With issues of sexual orientation very high on his agenda, Kosmos saw with particular satisfaction Stella Belia accepting the proposal to participate in the European ballot. Ms. Belia, founder and President of the organization “Rainbow Families”, is known for her struggles to highlight the discrimination experienced by LGBTI+ people, while her action resulted in many legislative regulations with a positive result for the inclusion of LGBTI+ people and the elimination of Loatkiphobia.

The candidacy of Lefteris Ioannidis signals the great importance they give to the WORLD in the issues of a fair green transition. Mr. Ioannidis, former mayor of Kozani, is a member of the local government with significant activity in environmental and ecological issues, in a region such as Western Macedonia, which is a bet for a fair transition to the post-lignin era.

Of particular interest is the candidacy of the professor of Microbiology and Director of the Microbiology Laboratory of the School of Medicine of the Greek Academy of Sciences, Thanasis Tsakris. Scientist with extensive experience in public health crisis management. The candidacy of Mr. Tsakris reflects the special interest of the World in public health issues and especially the connection between the effects of the climate crisis and public health in our time.

“The European elections are the beginning of a great political struggle”

It is noted, finally, that despite the great importance they attach to the elections of June 9, in the WORLD they consider the upcoming European elections as the beginning of a great political struggle which will continue in the next period.
