The Deputy Regional Governor of Western Greece Charalambos Bonanos and the Deputy Regional Governor of Public Health Anna Mastorakou visited the Bone Marrow Volunteer Donor Information Center of the University of Patras (KEDMOP – Harise Zoi) today, Wednesday, April 24, 2024, where they were guided by the Professor of Hematology of the University of Patras and Director of the KEDMOP Donor Center – “Give Life” Alexandros Spyridonidis.

During the meeting, they were informed about the important and multifaceted work carried out by the Center and ways of supporting this great scientific effort were discussed.

The Deputy Regional Governor, after congratulating both Mr. Spyridonidis and all those who provide services at the Center, emphasized:

“Bone marrow donation is a real act of selfless contribution to fellow human beings. The volunteer bone marrow donor Gives Life to fellow human beings suffering from blood cancer (usually leukemia or lymphomas) or other blood diseases.

The Region of Western Greece is always helpful in every effort to inform, raise awareness and attract new volunteers by supporting actions aimed at registering new members to KEDMOP “Give Life”. If each of us thinks that with something very simple for us we can save a life, then we should all already have become donors!”

The Deputy Regional Governor of Public Health P.D.E., stated in the context of the meeting: “Warm congratulations are due to the Scientific Manager Mr. Alexandros Spyridonidis, to all the scientific staff and to the large group of volunteers for the multifaceted work they carry out both in terms of information and attraction of volunteer bone marrow donors as well as in the dissemination of scientific knowledge, in education and in the development of research in general.

Another important achievement and culmination of the efforts is the Institute of Cellular Therapies which focuses on translational research in cellular, gene and regenerative therapies in which the KEDMOP, the Department of Medicine of the University of Patras and the University Hospital of Patras cooperate, which highlights the Western Greece both at National and European Level.

The Region of Western Greece, as a whole, supports and will continue to support in practice the scientific activities of KEDMOP so that patients have access to new cellular therapies that will help save lives.”
