A surprise awaited the students of the Robotics group of the earthquake-stricken Falanis primary school today as the Regional Governor of Thessaly, Mr. Dim. Kouretas, accompanied by the Regional Deputy Governor of Larisa, Ms. M. Galliou, visited the school with the governor to give the young students fifteen tablets, as he had promised them for their awards, most recently winning second place in the Panhellenic Robotics Competition with the project “Water Strategies for Thessaly”.

The students informed the District Governor in detail about their project, which aims to prevent water scarcity and flood prevention as well as the optimal management of water resources in our region, a project they chose because of the catastrophic floods in Thessaly.

In fact, the way the students presented the project impressed the District Governor, who congratulated them. “You make us proud,” said Mr. Kouretas and pledged that he will be by their side and that he will further promote the project.

It should be noted that this particular school, which was affected by the earthquake three years ago, is still operating with problems as cracks were caused in the historic building as a result of which it was deemed unsuitable and half of the classes are still teaching in prefabricated buildings (containers).

The District Governor from the first moment of assuming his duties had visited the school and made it a priority.

In the context of today’s visit, he announced to the teachers that there is a study of 300 thousand euros in order to make repairs to

bearing building, while for the required expansion it will be necessary to join the NSRF after submitting a relevant request and by the end of 2025 the project is expected to be completed.

At the same time, the Region is proceeding with work on the school’s toilets, which will be completed by the end of the month, in order to make them functional for students and teachers.

In addition to the principal Mrs. Evangelia Kania and the teachers of the school, the President of the Association of Parents & Guardians Renos Karyotis was present.
