On the other hand, for the same reason, excursionists are expected, mainly from abroad, who had included the destination in the context of organized packages of the summer season, and thus the “losses” are expected to be replaced.
So far, however, according to the president of the Ioannina Prefecture Hoteliers Union, Spyros Sourelis, there are available accommodations both in the city and, mainly, in the mountains of the prefecture. “Our city and the region are in demand. It is a destination that people want. We believe that, even at the last moment, occupancy will increase even more and, even if we do not reach the absolute, it will be to a very satisfactory degree,” he noted.
The vast majority of visitors are expected to come from other regions of the country, given that it preceded the Catholic Easter, which could bring foreign visitors to the region. “There are also some foreigners who will visit our area, because the organized excursions of the summer season have already started”, added Mr. Surelis.
Finally, on the occasion of the presence of the Hoteliers’ Union at the Nicosia International Tourism Fair, through its secretary Theodoros Vandolas, Mr. Surelis noted that the messages from Cyprus were very positive, however the goal is to widen the age “range” of Cypriot visitors . “Cyprus is a market that traditionally supports us, especially in the summer months, with both individual visitors and organized tours. Mainly I would say that it is older people who visit us and where we should focus, from the air flight that we would like to return at some point, is how we can reach out and show the potential that our area has and to a younger world to visit our region”, he concluded.
