Meeting on the irrigation of Karditsa – Larissa in the Decentralized Administration

With the start of the irrigation season, the General Secretary of the Decentralized Administration, Konstantinos Tzanakoulis, in collaboration with the Water Directorate of Thessaly, convened a meeting to discuss the irrigation issues of all the irrigated areas of Karditsa and Larissa that use the water of Lake Plastira and Smokovo. It was decided to follow last year’s plan which was highly successful. The conditions this year regarding Lake Plastira are better than last year but that does not mean that there is no need for prudence and not wasting water that is so necessary. On the contrary, Smokovo Lake (dam) does not have the water needed by the irrigated lands and here it was emphasized that more attention is needed. Because the last rains were extremely beneficial, the proposal to everyone is to avoid irrigation of the seedling, mainly of the cotton crops, in order to save water.
