Submit a topical question

The MP P.E. Kozanis and Head of Tourism SYRIZA P.S. Mr. Kalliopi Vetta submitted a topical parliamentary question to the Minister of Health on the topic “Major problems in the operation of the M.E.Th. of P.E. Kozanis” which will be discussed, in the presence of the responsible Minister, in the next period in the Parliament.

The question highlights the serious problem observed in the Intensive Care Units of Kozani and Ptolemaida Hospitals.

In particular, only two doctors have remained active in ΄΄Mamatsio΄΄ -who, understandably, are faced with excruciating working conditions-, as a result of which the Unit often declares weakness and transfers are made to other Hospitals.

At the same time, in ΄΄Bodosakeio΄΄, the Unit, due to the lack of doctors, has been closed since November as, both there and in Kozani, the announcements for doctors become barren since there is no institutional and financial incentive to attract interested scientists.

This is a dramatic development for the two Hospitals – and the health of the citizens of P.E. Kozanis-, which could, based on their equipment and infrastructure, play a significant role in the management of serious health incidents in the wider region.

Mrs. Vetta stated: “The shrinking and obsolescence of public health is a strategic goal of the government as the only thing it is concerned with is handing over to small and large private interests the legacy and infrastructure of the National Health Service.

In P.E. Kozanis, the plan has already been unfolding since 2020 with the pandemic, understaffing, the indifference to establish incentives to attract doctors and nurses, the granting of vital areas of feeding, guarding and cleaning to private contractors and, of course, with the explicitly stated opinion that there is no need to have hospitals at close distances, thus declaring that either ΄΄Mamatsio΄΄ or ΄΄Bodosakeio΄΄ must be put into a state of disrepair and closure..

Today, we are experiencing another episode, with the M.E.Th. of our hospitals, either to be closed or to be under-functioning, as the announcements are not covered since there is no incentive for candidates in an area, I remind you, where – on paper – a fair transition clause is provided, with special care for P. E. Kozani.

I filed a topical question on the matter, asking the responsible Minister to answer competently, claiming that he will refute every scenario that is circulated for the closure of the M.E.Th. in P.E. Kozani and, at the same time, will take the necessary measures, even with a long delay, to fully cover the organizational charts in the area’s hospitals.

The claim for a public and free E.S.Y. with quality services and benefits to employees and citizens will never stop, despite the contrary aspirations and schemes of the government”

CURRENT QUESTION
To the Minister of Health

Topic: “Major problems in the operation of M.E.Th. of P.E. Kozani”

Recently, the problem with the Intensive Care Units of the Kozani and Ptolemaida Hospitals has been worsening.

Specifically, in G.N. Kozanis ΄΄Mamatsio΄΄, the gaps in the organizational chart have not been filled, as two (2) doctors have essentially remained for the support and operation of the Unit, with the result that patients who need hospitalization are taken to other Units in Northern Greece. At the same time, the specific situation, with the dramatic understaffing, has led to exterminating working conditions for the doctors of M.E.Th. with any aggravating consequences arising for their physical and mental endurance.

In Ptolemaida, in G.N. ΄΄Bodosakeio΄΄, the M.E.TH, due to the lack of doctors, has been essentially closed since November, at a time when its equipment and infrastructure could – as is the case with the Kozani Hospital – make it a center reference and hospitalization.

At the same time, the announcements for the doctors in the relevant 3rd Y.P.E. they become barren as they do not contain any institutional and financial incentive, while the institutionalized, but by no means implemented, de-lignitization clause, which provided for special care for the region, is completely absent.

The above alarming developments confirm in practice the leaks in the M.M.E. that the intention of the Ministry is to close one of the two Units, a fact which constitutes a dramatic discrediting of the E.S.Y. of the region, and causes great concern to the citizens.

Because the understaffing of the M.E.Th. creates strong concern among citizens about their possible closure, while burdening the work of existing doctors.

The competent Minister is asked:
1. What actions will he take – giving institutional and financial incentives – so that all vacant organizational positions in the M.E.Th. of the hospitals of P.E. Kozani?
2. He intends to proceed with the closure of Intensive Care Units in P.E. Kozanis, as reported in the media?
