Dissatisfied citizens and doctors with care in Greece

The data on the satisfaction of citizens and doctors for the disease are heartbreaking care in Greece, according to research. The 45.1% of respondents from the general public is not satisfied with the Health services, while the 48.3% of doctors evaluate the NHS negatively.

Specifically, the survey was conducted on behalf of the Panhellenic Medical Association by the polling company GPO, last month in a population 1,108 men and women over 17 years of age who live in all the geographical divisions of the country. They were also asked to 720 doctors of various specialties which operate similarly in all the geographical regions of the country. The survey presents this year’s data in comparison with the corresponding last year’s survey conducted by the same company on behalf of PIS.


From the answers to the relevant questionnaire, the main conclusions emerged that:
It is indicative that almost half of the respondents 45.1%, from the general public declares is not satisfied from the Health services neither in the public nor in the private Health system (in 2023 the corresponding percentage was 31.2%).
Also, the 48.3% of doctors evaluate negatively the health system in our country (public and private), while the corresponding percentage in 2023 was 22.9%. 17.4% evaluate it positively.

Individually, the respondents stated:
-The 56.9% is not satisfied by the benefits in the public health system
– T91.1% are satisfied aby the doctors of the public health system.
-The 75.4% are dissatisfied from organization in Health structures.
-The 65.2% choose to visit private practices and not hospitals.

Regarding the legislative changes, the doctors judged only positively at a rate of 27.7% this year, compared to 37.7% last year. It is indicative that in favor of maintaining public character them and 78.5% of the public and 90% of doctors are in favor of not turning Hospitals into NIDPs.

It is noteworthy that in favor of raising the salaries of NHS doctors to the levels of the average salaries received by doctors in 82.8% of citizens and 91.6% of doctors favor the EU.


They still consider it positive establishing incentives for the staffing of the barren and island regions the 97.3% of citizens and 96.4% of doctors.In favor of maintaining a private practice by ESY doctors is the 44.6% of citizens.


Personal doctor

The survey records another picture with increased rates of citizen satisfaction:
Registration to the personal doctor displays upward trend. The 73.5% of citizens has registered with a personal physician and the 9.8% of the unregistered intends to do so. The highest percentages appear in ages over 55 years. Also, 55% say they are satisfied with the institutionwhile only 14.1% are dissatisfied.
The 43.1% received an sms for a mammogram and he did her too 26% received smsbut he did not use it mainly due to negligence.

Attitude towards PIS

The 32.4% of citizens has a positive view of the activities of the PIS, the 27.1% is neutral and 14.6% has a negative view. The rest did not answer. He has a positive view of PIS 50.4% of doctors and negative it 16.9%while the majority, the 68% rate positively her served by the services of the PIS.

Referring to the research, Dr. Athanasios Hexadaktylos pointed out that “for the first time, we have positive response to the personal doctor and we can expect the establishment of Primary Health Care in a period of problems accumulated over decades, which require increased funding. The acceptance by our fellow citizens of his proposals Panhellenic Medical Association, gives us strength to continue our consulting work. A warm request to all women who receive an SMS for a mammogram not to neglect it. For every 8 mammograms that are not done there is an undiagnosed breast cancer”.
