The announcement of Vassilis Aivalis’ faction states:
Harsh criticism of the Municipal Authority of Patras for the way in which it handled in the past and is still handling the issue of the employees of the Public Welfare of the Municipality of Patras was made by the head of the faction “Patra, Great Again” Vassilis Aivalis during his appointment to the Municipal Authority Council.
Mr. Aivalis spoke of a method that began to “comfort” and then to be instrumentalized by the Municipal Authority certain employers and it ended in a boomerang as then the same Municipal Authority that indicated the way of the claim, turned against the workers behaving as if these are three-speed workers, leaving the disliked to their fate.
The leader of the faction “Patra Great Again” also described the incredible events with the attacks of strangers on workers who had proceeded to occupy the City Hall, speaking of “euphemistically strangers who are inciting our fellow citizens, euphemistically strangers who are retaking the of the town hall, repelling the squatters and euphemistically strangers who guard the town hall internally during the weekend so that the space will not be occupied again by the beneficiaries of the public benefit”.
He even called on the Municipal Authority “to take political responsibility for the mistake of its anti-gathering in the same place, day and time as the gathering of workers and to unequivocally condemn the violence and sexual harassment of pensioners, which offend the city, its workers and the its democratic struggles”.
Mr. Aivalis requests from the Municipal Authority:
- To cooperate with the competent Minister of the Interior so as to secure funds and plan soon the filling of the vacant positions in the organizational chart of the Municipality of Patreon through ASEP, giving additional credit to the employees who have already worked in it.
- To ensure, in cooperation with the Region of Western Greece, utilizing European funds, that there are social and solidarity economy actions in order for many of them to work.

- To arrange with the Administrative Authority of the PDE for the new entrepreneurship actions of the area so that new jobs are financed and there is additional crediting for workers found in the said regime.
The full text of Mr. Aivalis’ statement to the Municipal Council is as follows:
Dear gentlemen,
as Municipal Factions of the opposition, today we brought to the municipal council an issue that the whole of Patras is talking about as it affects people, dignity, labor rights but also the right to mobilization and assertion, about which a lot of ink has been spilled from time to time, especially by the present Municipal Authority.
We all know that situations have taken place in our city in the last few days that refer us to black pages of our modern history, just as we all know that hundreds of workers have been experiencing for years a hostage and deception regime that is anything but honorable to our Municipality.
Fellow municipal councillors, the way of dealing with the employees of the Community Service under the main responsibility of the Municipal Authority for many years is completely unacceptable and clearly insulting and hypocritical.
These are people who were deceived, when after the completion of the timetable of their integrated and implemented work in the Municipality of Patras, they were instigated -by the Municipal Authority itself, which subsequently abandoned them-, to claim through legal means the extension as well as their permanence in the Municipality of Patras. These are workers, who heard from the most institutional sources that the Municipal Authority itself will support them and will be by their side in this legal struggle.
What did the Municipal Authority of the People’s Gathering do after the promises and incentives? Others she supported herself in their legal battles, others she supported through legal counsel and others she avoided at all costs, refusing to stand by their side. He treated the employees of the Patreon Municipality Community Service each time in a different way, as if they were three-speed workers, with criteria he never explained to us, creating unequal treatment between them and justified anger.
It is obvious that the whole method started to “comfort” some people. However, in the situation that our country is in and especially our region with high unemployment, precision and energy poverty, the management got away and unfortunately for the Municipal Authority itself it followed the form of dominoes with the result that almost all the employees of the Community Service who worked in the Municipality with the OAED programs and for the following years to follow the same strategy.
In this way, the Municipal Authority found itself faced with a problem it itself created, prioritizing other goals, such as the conversion of workers to its political ideology, to the promotion of the militant assertion of their rights through revolutionary gymnastics – a method it knows better than everyone-, but also in voting both locally and nationally.
In fact, when the workers in question began to claim in a more militant way the right to their work, then some “strangers” began to commit violence and carry out forced labor, repossessions, guards and so on, creating situations that, especially here in Patras, cause a lot sad associations.
But the people of Patraiko know!
And he knows and grieves when he sees:
- Euphemistically, strangers to flatter our fellow citizens.
- Euphemistically, strangers to retake the town hall by pushing back the squatters.
- Euphemistically, strangers to guard the town hall internally during the weekend so that the space will not be occupied again by the beneficiaries of the public benefit.
The people of Patraiko both know and are saddened when they see:
- The Municipal Authority to hold a counter-gathering at the town hall and “stand up” for the rights of the workers in the same place, at the same time and day that the contract workers themselves had planned their own gathering.
- The Municipal Authority to proceed with a new rally on Monday morning outside the Ministry of the Interior to assert its demands, with the mayor of the country’s third largest city instead of having scheduled a meeting with the relevant minister to document the city’s demands and to consult with her about which and how many of them can be satisfied, when and in what way, to choose to carry out a gathering of impressions under the Ministry as a result of which she manages to meet only the G.G. of the Ministry.

Gentlemen of the Municipal Authority,
you have fostered a hostage situation of our city’s workers. With false promises you tried first to please some people, secondarily to make them your party audience and finally to steal their vote. And then you yourselves, the self-proclaimed protectors of workers, turned against them. As if workers only need protection when they benefit you. So simple.
We are completely opposed to such logics and policies.
As a new faction that had nothing to lose not only now but also in the pre-election period, we did not give and do not give any false promises, much more to people who claim the right to their work, to their survival and their dignity.
But we were absolutely positive in answering the question of whether the Municipal authority should behave in the same way towards all our fellow citizens, regardless of their political affiliation and who they support. This is not at her discretion. It is her institutional obligation!
Our answer was absolutely affirmative and when we were asked if we would be positive in supporting a legal effort by the employees in the temporary procedures of the injunctive measures until the final judgment in their regular lawsuit, as happened in the initial cases. We are on their side.
Colleagues,
the hostage situation of the contracting parties must end.
The Municipal Authority of Patras must:
- To take her responsibilities and stop her hypocritical attitude towards the employees. To stop their reproach.
