THE Revoluta licensed bank with more than 40 million customers worldwide and over 1 million in Greece, conducted research on the travel plans of over 15,000 people from 15 countries for 2024, incl 1,000 in Greece. Participants are over 18 years old and represent the local population.

Regarding the month in which Greeks plan to take their main and longest vacation this year, more than half of the respondents (56%) stated the July and August. Alongside, 11% of Greeks plan their main holidays in September, after the high tourist season, and it’s not just about students. 10% plan their main vacation between April and June. Only 6% of the respondents will take their main holidays between October and December, while 13% of respondents said they have no vacation plans for this year.

This season’s top destinations and vacation types

According to the research, 7 out of 10 Greeks will spend their holidays in Greece, 15% will travel to destinations in Europe, while just 2% will travel outside the continent. The favorite destinations of those who travel to Europe are Italy, France and Germany, while those traveling to distant destinations will mainly choose the USA and Southeast Asian countries. Greek respondents who travel to Europe are mainly people aged 25-34 (24%), while those who choose an intercontinental destination are usually over 55 years old.

But what are the holiday preferences of the Greeks? The holidays at sea are the top choice for this year, as 6 out of 10 say they will prefer them. Greeks are also planning family trips (22%), holidays to destinations with intense nightlife or music festivals (12%), city breaks and wellness trips (11% both). Finally, 2% of Greeks plan to combine holidays and work (workation).

Camping or all inclusive?

The success of a holiday is largely determined by the destination, but also by the accommodation and attractions it offers. Revolut asked Greeks what activities and experiences they look for when they travel. According to the answers, the favorite activities of Greeks are visiting local monuments (49%), trying local cuisine and learning local traditions (44%). As for accommodation, all-inclusive hotels that offer an open bar and buffet are the top choice (27%). On the contrary, only 9% choose camping and staying in a caravan. 1 in 10 also consider it important to have activities suitable for children, so that parents can enjoy relaxing moments.

Revolut recently launched its own eSIM and offers global data plans to its customers in Greece. Revolut’s eSIM allows users to get mobile data abroad and stay online without unexpected roaming charges and outages. This is an important feature, as 1 in 4 Greeks admits to having had problems with their mobile phone/connection while abroad in the past.
