Completion of 40 MW wind farms in Western Macedonia – Business Voice

--

The organic growth of its RES portfolio PPC Renewables is progressing strongly, as new wind and solar projects are constantly being completed and added to the existing RES projects of approximately 1.5 GW of installed capacity. In the first quarter of 2024, the first part of the Koukouli – Doukas wind farm complex in Western Macedonia was put into operation.

Specifically, it was put into operation, after the connection to the electricity transmission system, the wind farm “Kukouli” park, in the wider area of Siatista. The play, installed capacity of 13.5 MW consists of three wind turbines of 4.5 MW, which expected to produce 38 GWh of energy per year, while preventing the emission of approximately 22,000 tons of CO2.

In addition to the “Kukouli” wind farm, the cluster of wind farms in Western Macedonia also consists of the wind farm “Duke”, near Kleisoura Kastoria. With installed capacity of 26 MW from 5 wind turbines of 5.2 MW, the “Doukas” station is expected to produce 68 GWh per year and prevent the emission of approximately 39,500 tons of CO2 through its operation. Work is progressing rapidly and it is expected to be operational before the end of the year. The construction of the two wind farms started in the summer of 2022.

With around 1.8 GW of new RES projects currently under construction, PPC is moving forward dynamically in its green transformation through the 100% subsidiary PPC Renewables. Among the large RES projects being built is the photovoltaic project – a 550 MW power station, located within the old lignite mines of the wider area of Ptolemais and one of the largest solar energy projects in Europe.
