At the 1st Student Mathematics Conference entitled: “Mathematical challenges in the 21st century” held at the Conference and Cultural Center of the University of Patras with the participation of students from schools all over Western Greece, the Deputy Governor of Achaia, Fokion Zaimis, attended.

“Congratulations for this great initiative, which we supported and continue to support because everything that has a positive impact on our children is valuable for the future of our society. Among the speakers, Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at the University of Patras and Corresponding Member of the Academy of Athens, Georgios Dasios, is excellent, he has a brilliant career and I hope that he will continue his work in this dynamic way”, said Mr. Zaimis, among others.

The purpose of the initiative was to highlight the usefulness of mathematics in everyday life as well as in the progress of humanity, mainly through its application in various scientific fields.

The action was supported by the Regional Unit of Achaia, the University of Patras, the Department of Mathematics of the University of Patras and the Aitoloakarnania and Ilia branches of the Hellenic Mathematical Society. The Conference was held under the auspices and approval of the Regional Directorate of Education of Western Greece and the PE.K.E.S. Of Western Greece.
