With the completion of one year since the graduation of the dear to all Argyris P.P. Petronoti (Tripoli 1924 – Thessaloniki 20/4/2023), the Central Public Library of Tripoli, the General Archives of the State of Arcadia and the Association of Arcadia Mountaineers and Ecologists (SAOO) will hold an honorary event for the deceased on Saturday, April 27, 2024 in the event hall of the Public Central Library of Tripoli at 7.30 p.m.

In the person of MastraArgyris, an architect with an important research project and a notable social contribution, the concepts of distinguished scientist and active citizen find their perfect expression.

His contribution to the study and promotion of the art and works of the anonymous folk craftsmen who sculpted the stone is invaluable. By studying the past critically, without being nostalgic, it helps us to creatively plan for the future.

Having traveled all over Greece and fascinated by nature, people and their works, he discovers the history and monuments that produce high-level culture.

He belonged to a generation that fought in difficult times for the country and paid the corresponding price as an exiled political prisoner in Makronissos.

He worked for the restoration of the temple of Epicurean Apollo in Vasses of Arcadia and taught as a professor of History of Architecture at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he was a favorite of many of his students.

He collaborated with a number of elite scientists in the research of traditional architecture and left a rich work, consisting of books, articles and studies.

He was a meek, approachable and amenable character to everyone and for this reason he built sincere friendships and relationships with many people, who appreciated him unimaginably.

He was inspired, studied and built in his hometown of Tripoli the Monument to the 603 Fallen Arkadians of 1940 1941, which he and his late sister Kanto financed.

In recent years, he actively participated in the construction site – training school for young architects and stone masons of the association “Anthi tis Petras” in Lagadia, Arcadia.

All who knew him will always remember him with genuine respect and love.

The following will speak at the event:

Yannis Georgoulis, head of GAK Arcadia, “The master Argyris as I met him”

Panagiotis Vemmos, mathematician, “Moments from the life of Argyris”

Despina Stambouloglou – Frentzou, architect engineer, “Argyris as a teacher”

Konstantinos Fredzos, civil engineer, “The roads of Pausanias in Ancient Tegea. An anecdotal work of

Panagiotis Tsakopoulos, architect, “Argyris Petronotis: Scientific action as a social debt”

Vassilis Siakottos, historian, “Conversing with his work and his network of collaborators”

The blacksmith Spyros Kaldis will recite two of his poems, dedicated to the silversmith.

It will be coordinated by Dim. Karamitzos, lawyer, member of SAOO.
