Ev. Liakoulis: “Synergy of all and now, for Thessalian Olympus”

Scheduled meeting at her political office in Larissa, with elected officials and residents of Elassona municipality carried out by Secretary of the Parliamentary Group of PASOK – Movement for Change and Member of Parliament for Larissa Evangelia Liakoulisin relation to the need for a general upgrade of the area, through the sustainable utilization of the Thessalian Olympus, which will allow the transformation of its mountainous disadvantage, into a productive advantage with a strong development sign.

In particular, the Secretary of K.O. of PASOK met with the presidents of the District of Elassona, of the local Council of Karya Mr. Nikos Katsivelos and of Evangelism Mr. Lioura Spyros, as well as with the active citizens of the area Mr. Municipality of Dassios and Georgios Hatzis, with all those present agreeing that all the relevant procedures for raising awareness of the local community must be accelerated, in order to put coordinated pressure on the central government and the relevant ministries.

For her part, Evangelia Liakoulis pointed out, among other things, the following:

“I have pointed out many times how now is the time of Olympus!

Now that Thessaly is trying to get back on its feet and a new overall, as well as coherent, vision is required which, apart from the necessary restructuring of agricultural production after the disasters of last September, will definitively and irrevocably integrate yet another mountainous region of Thessaly, into the tourist map of the country. A map, which unfortunately so far does not include the prefecture of Larissa, as opposed to the neighboring prefectures of Magnesia, Karditsa and Trikala.

After all, the care of mountainous and disadvantaged areas is not of any kind “voluntary” move of “indolence” by the central state, but inviolable Constitutional provision, under Article 106, which expressly includes a mountain clause, to ensure special care for mountainous areas.

And personally – for the last 5 years or so – I have not stopped reminding this fact from the seats of the Parliament, in successive bills, but also as a tip of my fight for the development of our county.

As far as the Thessalian Olympus is concerned, its utilization is self-evident as a global demand, since our mythical mountain has a similar and strong brand name with the classical monuments of Greece and the rest of its popular destinations in other regions.

But what have we seen so far in practice?

We have seen in practice, only the unequal development of the Thessalian Olympus, in relation to the development of the Pierian Olympus, which are geographically separated only by an imaginary “border” of the political map. We have to reverse this situation, as long as we believe in the natural advantages of our Place and all of us join our forces in this common goal, with a joint comprehensive strategic framework of actions.

The integrated interconnection and networking of the Thessalian and Pieric Olympus in a “whole”, in a single whole, is an immense need.

And this can be done with the added value it would offer to the area, the operation of specific structures such as a Mythological Park (already for years it has been officially studied and its updating is required) as well as the creation of its supporting infrastructure.

Already, I have discussed repeatedly with the Municipality of Elassona and the Municipal authority on the matter, with the local bodies of Elassona, with the presidents of the local communities as well as with citizens of the prefecture.

Required immediate modern redesign, updating of the studies, implementation road map with all interventions, sources of financing and benefits that will be enjoyed by all residents of Elassona and the prefecture, from the economic, development, tourism, social, cultural, sports and productive regeneration of the region.

And of course, all this must be done with absolute respect for the priceless natural environment, the local flora and fauna, which should not be disturbed, but instead protected, displayed and improved, because we see what is happening e.g. in the Cyclades, where tourism “at any cost” risks radically and permanently disrupting the picturesqueness of our islands.

Synergies now, therefore, between relevant ministries, local society, elected officials and parliamentarians, regardless of “color and party”, to transform our Place into something that will make us even more proud than we are now…” .
