THE myAUEB is the first integrated mobile application in a Greek HEI from the Athens University of Economics and Business.

The world of OPA on your mobile». With this phrase, the Athens University of Economics and Business presents myAUEB, the new mobile app designed specifically for undergraduate students, today, 4/24.

It is an integrated application of undergraduate studies, connected to the information systems of the University and to external information systems, providing personalized information for a wide range of services and features such as a digital calendar with the daily course schedule, announcements for assignments and exams, reminders for all the deadlines for submission of assignments, analysis of the study progress with a projection of the score but also a projection of the percentage of completion of the courses for obtaining a degree. In addition, instant notifications (Push Notifications) are provided for extraordinary changes in the University program or important news.

The management of notifications of the user is personalized.

The student experience

OPA students participated in the development of the application from the beginning.

“About two years ago, we were invited by the university to join a newly formed group, which – among other things – would develop an application to easily connect students with the university”, begins Alekos Georgoulias, now a graduate of OPA . “Our vision was for the application to be perfectly adapted to the needs of all of us. We talked to students, gathered ideas, saw corresponding applications in some universities abroad and collected information. Many discussions followed, we also met on Saturdays… We came up with some requirements, which would be very helpful and necessary for the average student. And after we completed the design, we delivered our ideas for development”, he continues. In particular, for the design of myAUEB, the scientific methodology of designing new and innovative digital media was followed, i.e. research was carried out on corresponding applications in universities abroad, recording the needs and existing information systems and determining specifications based on the needs of the student population. The mapping of needs and specifications was done using the human-centered design thinking method with the participation of volunteer groups of students, graduates and employees at the University.

Maria Bourli, also a graduate of OPA from the Department of Business Organization and Management majoring in information systems, actively participated in the team: “The project is truly pioneering, because OPA was the first university that not only created the application but also included the students throughout the process from start to finish – we entered the realization of the idea as business partners and started with a sheet of paper. We were trying to imagine the user experience, the interface, the design of the application. An application, which was literally ‘tailored’ to the students’ measurements”.

“As a ‘pilot’ user, I tested the app and found it to be very functional. It is not behind in anything compared to other popular and highly downloaded applications while it is very helpful for students because it makes their life easy. Instead of going to the university’s website every day for information on every subject, now they have everything on their mobile phones at any time”, emphasizes Mr. Georgioulias.

The content

myAUEB comes to enhance the experience of students with the University based on modern multi-channel communication, i.e. the provision of the necessary information from the University through the channels in which its students are located and used.
A set of digital services are used to make their daily life better: full information on the study procedures per year, digital communication with the Department Secretariat with the possibility of sending requests, connection to e-Class and e-Secretariat, direct communication with teachers’ emails as with the Evdoxos program. Direct connection to OPA’s Social Media. Update on the Student Club catering menu.

In addition, because the main concern of the Athens University of Economics and Business is the even better connection of students with the labor market, through this specific application it gives the possibility of immediate information about immediate employment opportunities with a detailed presentation of the company, the conditions and the benefits of each job position as well as the ability to digitally send an application and CV for the selection position.

Application available for all mobiles

myAUEB is the first comprehensive mobile application in a Greek university, available on Google and Apple stores.
The application, implemented in collaboration with COSMOTE and the digital marketing company White Space, is specially designed, according to international standards, to be easy to use and attractive, and has already gathered very positive feedback from the student groups, who participated both in initial design as well as in the test phases of its development.

On the occasion of the presentation of myAUEB, the Rector of OPA, Professor Dimitris Bourandonis, said: “One of our strategic priorities is the provision of an upgraded university environment, which is achieved, among other things, through digital upgrading. Focusing on the OPA student, we provide a system with comprehensive information for all aspects of undergraduate studies, thus taking an important step in the direction of the University’s digital transformation.”

His satisfaction for the successful completion of the project is recorded by the person in charge of the project, Vice-Rector for Economic Planning and Infrastructure of the OPA Professor Kostas Drakos. As he says, this is a project, which “aims to change the experience of studying at the Athens University of Economics and Business. The application is a single point of information that includes all undergraduate studies services. It offers direct and comprehensive information, while at the same time strengthening the connection of students with the University, sealing our constant pursuit of providing high-standard services”.

“This particular project was an invaluable experience for me. It is worth noting that the experience I gained through my participation in the process was something that was highly valued when I applied for professional opportunities that I found – they get excited when they see it on my CV”, reflects Maria Bourli, to adds: “It was a great honor to be part of something so ground-breaking and to know that our team has contributed to helping the university grow. The more we contribute to the development of the university, the more we develop as professionals – we take care of it so that it takes care of us.”
