Easter days have always been an opportunity to escape to the villages – for those lucky enough to have houses there – while those who do not stay in the city choose nearby or further destinations depending on the amount they have available.

The “frame” of this year’s Easter, which “falls” on May 5th, of course also includes the beach bars that are ready to open their doors and get us into summer rhythms, as long as the weather allows it and doesn’t get them wet… like last year.

However, from the trends recorded by IELKA, this year’s Easter will be more… domestic, as only 1 in 4 households (26%) will travel outside urban centers to a village or island. While in the previous decade almost 53% left the city.

43% declare that they will participate in large family tables of more than 10 people. This percentage is up from 40% in 2023, but clearly down from 67% in 2019.

Of course, Easter, especially for those who have holiday homes, is suitable for… relaxed situations, where families and friends get together, everyone puts something for meat, sweets, drinks and spends carefree moments.

There are, however, people from Thessalonica who want to experience the overwhelming days that come in pre-eminent Easter destinations such as Corfu, which is high on the preferences of those who choose to make an organized trip.

However, since this year’s Easter gets, as we said, an extra day due to May Day being moved from Wednesday (1/5) to 7/5, other destinations such as Zagorochoria, Pelion, Ioannina are included in the options.

And because this year’s Easter also has this peculiarity with one extra day of rest, there are also many who decide to pack their bags and avoid the usual.

And here, more or less, the options are the well-known ones, always starting from Thessaloniki.

Malta, Barcelona, ​​Rome, Milan, Naples for flights and Istanbul, Belgrade, Sofia, Budapest for road trips.

Don’t get them wet again…

In battle positions and the beach bars of Halkidiki, which are feverishly preparing to start their operation for those who want to do… Easter and May Day dives.

After all, the weather of the previous days with temperatures reminiscent of June made many long for a deck chair and an iced coffee or beer by the sea.

Even if nothing is clear about the Easter weather, some reports about the possibility of rain during the lunch hours may lead some to have second thoughts.

Of course, the professionals of Halkidiki don’t even want to think about such a possibility as they remember last year when a whole month was lost until the traffic started to slow down in the beach bars of the area, due to the constant rains in June and especially on the weekends.

However, this year’s expectations are high in the industry and they hope that this time the weather will be an ally and not an adversary, since they themselves will open their… gates from the beginning of May and they certainly don’t want to see the costs “run” , but their coffers remain empty, as happened last year.
