The great theater man and one of the reformers of the theater in the 20th century, the legendary Eugenio Barba, will visit Ioannina, as a guest of the group next September.
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of Odin Theatret, the theater organization created by Eugenio Barba in Oslo and with which (and the multicultural Theatrum Mundi Ensemble) he presented more than 80 performances almost all over the world, the “Synthesis » will honor Eugenio Barba for his tireless action and his multifaceted contribution to the Theatre.
Eugenio Barba studied theater in Poland with Jerzy Grotowski, at Teater Laboratorium, while studying Asian traditional theater techniques in depth. He has written a number of books that have been translated into many languages ​​and has been awarded an honorary Doctorate by 17 universities from Montreal to Shanghai and from Copenhagen to Hong Kong and Buenos Aires where he teaches in their respective departments.
Very soon, more details will be announced about the program of his visit to Ioannina as well as about a unique seminar, which will be organized by “Synthesis” with speakers Eugenio Barba and Julia Varley, and coordinator of activities the director Costas Vantzos
It is worth noting that Eugenio Barba is among the artists who have marked the history of theater in the second half of the twentieth century, and is the only one who has worked in an innovative way in all fields of theatrical culture: artistic creation, theoretical thinking, pedagogy, transmission of technical and professional knowledge, work on historical memory, scientific research, use of theater in a social context as an intercultural tool to activate relationships and points of contact between different communities and ethnic groups.
