For the fifth day, Stefanos Kasselakis continues his tour of 29 Greek islands, continuing contacts with local actors and citizens in view of the European elections in June.

One of the meetings he had at the Monastery of Panagia Chozoviotissa in Amorgos was special. There, the SYRIZA president spoke with monks in an atmospheric and relaxed environment.

The dialogue that followed:

  • Stefanos Kasselakis: I expect from you. From the mouth of God tell me over here how many you are
  • Monk: The elders will keep, to grow. We are few
  • Stefanos Kasselakis: Should I come and isolate myself?
  • Monk: Yes, yes (laughs)
  • Stefanos Kasselakis: Half of Greece would love this. Okay, get rid of me (laughs)
  • Monk: So huh? The other half?
  • Stefanos Kasselakis: The other half would like me not to be lonely. He would like me to change everything
  • Monk: Good, don’t be lonely to change them. If you have to change them, don’t stay

At that moment the president of SYRIZA sat on a terrace, where from behind there was absolute emptiness since the monastery is built at a height of 300 meters from the sea. Then the monks and associates shouted to him to be careful, with him laughingly replying: “Children, calm down, I’m not going anywhere even though half of Greece would like me to go.”

Stefanos Kasselakis: Donation to Panagia Portaitissa

Stefanos Kasselakis made a donation to Panagia Portaitissa in Astypalaia to buy paints for the hagiographies that were destroyed after a fire during his visit to the island.

As the deputy mayor of the island, Konstantinos Kambylis, said, nothing was planned, “the president of SYRIZA was just given a tour of Portaitissa and we told him the story of how it burned down, of his own accord he was willing to proceed with the donation.”
