The Member of Parliament of Chios, Mr. Notis Mitarakis, participated in the TV panel of Action24’s “Morning Zone” show.

At the table of the political discussion were issues that concern current affairs. Specifically, Mr. Mitarakis answered, among other things, questions about the Opinion Poll, the reactions of the Church, as well as about immigration.

Regarding the Opinion Poll and when asked about the percentage of 33% shown by the poll in favor of New Democracy, Mr. Mitarakis noted that “We have not set a numerical target. Our goal is a very good result in the European elections. I believe that New Democracy is rallying ahead of the elections. The climate is quite positive both in the world and in the parliamentary group. Of course there are challenges, of course there are difficulties, but finally the Greek people recognize that in the last five years there has been enormous progress in the field of the economy, in the improvement of living standards, in immigration, in national issues, in the security of citizens. There are difficulties, there will always be difficulties, but I think the citizens recognize that Kyriakos Mitsotakis is the only viable political proposal that currently exists in the country.”

“If we go to 2019 again, then the result of the European elections differed by too many points from the result of the upcoming national elections that gave independence to New Democracy. It is obvious that in the European elections you often have more abstention. A lot of people don’t vote, a lot of people vote more relaxed, but it seems that New Democracy is rallying. We are starting an intense pre-election campaign throughout the country. The stakes are concrete and substantial. And in Europe it is crucial that we continue to be able to support the Greek economy with resources secured by the Government of the New Democracy from both the Recovery Fund and the NSRF. It is crucial that Europe continues to have policies that shield European defense, which is now, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a basic demand of European citizens. But there is also a national dimension, to send the message that the citizens want a stable government until the end of the four years, in 2027, when national elections will be held again.”added Mr. Mitarakis.

Answering a question about the reactions of the Church, Mr. Mitarakis said that “The Church is based on love. Christianity is the religion of love. It is not, as the Archbishop said, a religion that takes revenge. It is unacceptable to have attacks against New Democracy MPs. And most parties, if not all, condemned the recent incident. Obviously there are priests who have their opinions. From there on, it is a matter which the Parliament legislated and we are moving forward. If some people choose to create tension in the run-up to elections, with the aim of creating tension, believing that this will help some other parties in their own electoral process, I think it will be a wrong choice. In the end, the majority of public opinion, when they see such extremes, the truth is that they usually turn away from those who react in an aggressive way.”

Addressing the MEP candidate with the “Democrates” party Mr. Manolis Anagnostakis “I want to tell you that in the European elections, in all the countries of Europe, the first topic of discussion is immigration. It is noticed that in Greece we do not mention the issue at any table. Why don’t we mention it on any table? Because the Government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis in the period 2019-2023, where it was a big issue for SYRIZA, faced it and solved it effectively.”

Referring to structure of Vastria and responding to the position of the MEP candidate regarding the “Hellenic Solution”, Mr. Yannis Skalkou emphasized that “The Municipal Council of Mytilini asked the Government three years ago to close the structure that is inside the city and to create a structure in an area indicated by the local community. And that’s what we did.”
