The issues to raise in the accountability meeting

--

Complaints about anti-democratic deviations that offend the institution of the Honorable Region, the problems in the operation of the Organizations of Health Improvements and the course of tourism in Western Greece, are the issues brought up for discussion by the “Together We Change – Western Greece” faction, led by Costas Karpeta, at the second special meeting of the Regional Council for the accountability of the Regional Authority. The meeting will be held on Thursday, April 25 at 4:00 p.m., in the meeting room of the Chamber in Patras.

The operation of the Water Improvement Organizations (OEB) in Western Greece and the management of the Water Improvement Projects in climate crisis conditions will be discussed at the special meeting on Thursday, following the request of the councilors of the faction “Change Together – Western Greece”, Dimitris Masoura (P. E. Etoloakarnanias) and Costas Diamantopoulos (P.E. Ilias).

The two signatory regional councilors, in their proposal, emphasize the need for the management of the Vascular Improvement Organizations of Western Greece in climate crisis conditions and to deal with the problems in agricultural holdings due to electrical problems and high energy costs. Mr. Masouras and Mr. Diamantopoulos emphasize that the Region cannot remain a neutral observer in the operational and financial problems of the OEBs, as it now has the responsibility of supervising the specific organizations.

At the same time, the upgrading and modernization of the irrigation infrastructure is considered necessary to ensure the limitation of water waste and the reduction of energy costs.

At the same time, the regional councilors of the “Together We Lose – Western Greece” faction note, the much-advertised photovoltaic park in Messolonghi seems unlikely to materialize, given the government’s will to promote the “Apollo” project. However, concerns are already being expressed as to whether the specific plan will reduce the energy costs of the OEBs to the extent that the Region’s plan would reduce it.

Kostas Diamantopoulos and Dimitris Masouras request to be informed by the Regional Authority what specific actions have been undertaken by the Region of Western Greece, during the time period when the supervision of the OEB is in its competence, in order to improve the functioning of these critical organizations in all levels, as well as what is the planning for the future, so that the OEBs can realistically and sustainably fulfill their development role.

At the same meeting, the anti-democratic diversions that brutally insult the institution of the Honorable Region will be requested, following the complaints of the former deputy governor and current regional councilor of the majority faction against the President of the House. In the proposal of the issue, signed by all the regional councilors of the “Together We Change – Western Greece” faction, the Regional Governor is requested to inform the members of the Regional Council and by extension the citizens of Western Greece about this serious matter.

Finally, the head of the faction “Together We Change – Western Greece”, Kostas Karpetas, brings up the issue of the reduction of tourist traffic in Western Greece at the special Accountability meeting of the Regional Authority, after the announcement of the relevant official data from the Bank of Greece . As Mr. Karpetas emphasizes, these figures are “revealing and at the same time disappointing”, as there is a drop in all indicators (overnight stays, visits, visitor stays, receipts) of tourist traffic in Western Greece for 2023, in fact, at a time when across the country tourism is recovering.
