On 19/4, the opening of the painting exhibition of Heraklion artist Loulas Metaxas with the general title “Triumphs” took place. The hall exhibits 90 works by our compatriot Lula Metaxas, who first appeared in the art-loving public of Heraklion. The creator has done multi-faceted studies with a predominant focus on psychology, from which she has borrowed her entire visual subject matter. The portraits dominate, through which she expresses her conclusions as a psychologist about the psycho-spiritual traumas of her idols.
Her visual performances create, approach to a large degree of fidelity the results of her investigations. Appropriate for each person are the selective captions that depict the psycho-spiritual constitution of the visual idol. The art lover who will visit the exhibition will find himself in front of many surprises. First of all, a primary theme that has not been presented in a painting exhibition to the art-loving public of Heraklion. The expression of each portrait/face is able, with its symbolic, but very rich psycho-spiritual essence, to help the visitor to search for a part of himself. As we know, all people have their own psychological traumas, some a little, some a lot.
The young artist teaches the visitor codes and visuals how to approach the problems of each idol. Since the number of works is quite large and they outnumber portraits, I am sure that each of all visitors will find something “his”. Every portrait is beautiful. Their creator borrows scientific, multifaceted and meaningful knowledge and captures them in a visual way that she has studied, although self-taught, very correctly, using the required expressive means. Her colors work in tonal scales that are often difficult to work with.
But the marriage of warm and cold colors give solutions to eloquent visual teaching. For everyone there is something special, personal. In this, our artist is helped by her rich vocabulary, personal style and visual style. The duration of the exhibition in the Basilica of St. Markou will be until the end of the month. A unique opportunity for the art-loving public of Heraklion to visit the exhibition to personally meet our young compatriot and creator, whose name as a visual artist will remain in the memories of those who see the exhibition. The set of works is expressed as a painting of multiple readings.
And the creator can also be described as a poet of colors. In this exhibition, all the artistic movements, which are not few, are “co-expressed”. The exhibition presents the same artistic features, largely unknown to the art-loving public of Heraklion, but which the creator frames with scientific cognitive arguments. Visual art works together with many other arts and this is where the truth of the matter is established. Through her visual works, the creator tries and searches to find her own “whys” in her “whys”. We wish her to continue her artistic creative work for her own benefit and for the art-loving public of Heraklion, which leaves us hopeful.
