New “dips” in the sales of newspapers and magazines in Greece

The sales of newspapers and magazines in our country are constantly decreasing, with the new figures from ELSTAT being disappointing. A new double-digit decline occurred in 2023, while an equally strong decline preceded it in 2022.

More specifically, according to the results of the Daily and Periodical Press Survey of the Hellenic Statistical Authority:

• In the year 2023, compared to the year 2022, there is a decrease in the total sales of newspapers by 10.2%, as well as in all individual categories.

In the corresponding comparison of the year 2022 with the year 2021, a decrease of 14.1% was observed in the total sales of newspapers.

• In the year 2023, compared to the year 2022, there is a 20.7% decrease in total magazine sales, as well as in all individual magazine categories.

As for the categories with the largest sales volume, the most important decreases are observed in the sales of television magazines and other magazines, by 17.0% and 42.6% respectively.

In the corresponding comparison of the year 2022 in relation to 2021, a decrease of 18.9% was observed in the total sales of magazines.
