Workers’ Association of Thessaly Region: Three-hour work stoppage tomorrow and protest rally

In a three-hour work stoppage and a protest rally at 1:00 p.m. at the Thessaly Region Headquarters in Larissa, the Thessaly Region Workers’ Association is proceeding tomorrow against the “Bill of the Ministry of Environment & Energy”.

The relevant announcement states:

“Colleagues, colleagues

In the following days, the government is proceeding with the passing of the unacceptable, anti-people and counter-productive bill of the Ministry of Environment and Energy entitled “Regulations to deal with the multi-level effects of climate change in the areas of: a) water management, b) forest management and protection , c) urban resilience and politics, d) the fight against arbitrary construction, e) energy security…”.

Despite the reactions, despite the complaints and opposing opinions, with the bill it promotes:

The transfer of responsibility for the management of water resources to anonymous companies and specifically to O.D.Y.TH. S.A. which will operate “according to the rules of the private economy”, which means that the price and quality of water will be determined by the profitability of the Corporation, and the effects on public health and the environment will be firmly on the “cost-benefit” scale. , turning water from a social good into a commodity.

l The transfer to O.D.Y.TH. S.A. in addition to the responsibilities and positions and staff of the Directorate of Water Economics and Supervision of the Local Organization for Vascular Improvements (T.O.E.V.) of the General Directorate of Environment, Water Economy and Building Control of the Central Service of the Region of Thessaly, which and the automatically makes him a staff member of O.D.Y.TH. S.A. with an indefinite private law employment relationship!!!!

For these unprecedented and unacceptable developments that concern us all, the Federation, continuing the actions and mobilizations, announced a Work Stoppage on Thursday, April 25, 2024, the last three hours of work for all employees with all labor relations of all services, of all of Regional Units of the Region of Thessaly

We claim:

● Not to proceed with the transfer of employees of the Region of Thessaly to an Anonymous Company, in O.D.Y.Th. S.A.. nor the change of their working relationship, with the conversion of the permanent relationship of a civil servant to an indefinite one!!! No fellow civil servant should be “transferred” to a Public Company.

● To prevent the privatization and commercialization of water, the creation of O.D.Y.TH. S.A.

● To upgrade all competent services to fully fulfill their role, and to implement all the necessary projects to ensure cheap, tested, quality water”.
