Inclusion of STEM, Digital Education, English as a Second Language (ESL) from Larissa 6th Day High School in Galati, Romania

In the framework of the European Program Erasmus+ ASOS with code 2023-1-EL01-K4121-SCH—000129483, our school as an accredited school with accreditation code 2020-1-EL01-KA120-SCH-000094713 and with the aim of promoting international cooperation, of inclusion, digital literacy and improving our use of English as a foreign language moved to Galati, Romania. A delegation of ten male and female students of the 6th Gymnasium of Larissa, accompanied by the school principal Mr. Papamargaritis Vasilios and the teachers Mr. Kalfuntzou Stavroula, Eleni Vozinidou, Dalla Emmanuel and Kakaranza Georgios visited the Colegiul National Costache Negri school in Galati of Romania from 15 to 20 April 2024.

Emphasis was placed on inclusive education, STEM, improving digital and English language skills. The students, through a series of related activities and workshops, acquired new knowledge, skills, attitudes while strengthening the ties of the three countries of Greece, Belgium and Romania participating in the program.

During their stay in Galati the students and accompanying teachers had the opportunity to visit the Romanian school and attend STEM, Robotics, Programming and English courses. Specifically, the students with their participation in the STEM workshops, experimented with programming robots, became familiar with digital tools, developed skills such as critical thinking, problem solving and digital literacy, but also broadened their professional horizons. Along with music, singing, traditional dances and cooking activities, they discovered new cultures and improved their communication skills in English, gaining confidence and feeling comfortable in an international environment.

The students of all the delegations with the trip to the Prahova Valley and the cities of Sinaia and Brasov were guided to the impressive Peles Palace in the Carpathian Mountains, the palace of the first king of Romania Charles I, the house of the musician George Enescu and other important monuments. There, using English as a language of communication, they interacted with their peers, participated in activities that promote equal opportunities for all, and developed empathy and tolerance in order to become responsible citizens of the world with respect for diversity.

The last two days were dedicated to the city of Bucharest. The students discovered the narrow streets of the Old Town, visited the church of Stavropoleos, Agios Dimitrios and also the Curtea Veche open-air museum. At the same time, they collected photographic material to create an English-language video and a digital map of the places they visited and the experiences they had.

The students and their accompanying teachers returned to Larissa full of new experiences, developing a deeper understanding of the world, building friendships and strengthening their soft skills, as they are valuable in all areas of life and work in the 21st century.
