The Mayor of Tripoli Mr. Kostas Tzioumis spoke on the Tripoli Municipal Radio and the show “Epi tis oussias” on the occasion of the last meetings of the Tripoli Municipal Council.

Regarding the issue raised by Mr. Gourgaris (flood control projects, water privatization and irrigation of Lake Taka), he emphasized: “For the issue of Lake Taka, both the Municipality and I have personally dealt with it in detail. The latest information says that the project will be auctioned in May. Yesterday we had a discussion with the Regional Governor and he confirmed to me that in May this irrigation project will be auctioned, with a budget of almost 20,000,000 euros. Regarding the issue of water supply, all the projects implemented by DEVAT (to ensure water quality, reduce losses due to damage, etc.) were mentioned in detail. A huge effort is being made by DEVAT, in order to have quality water and to deal with the issue of water scarcity”, while he added: “We, as DEVAT, are strongly opposed to the plan to unify the DEVAs”.

The Mayor also referred to the anti-flood projects and the pressure exerted by the Municipality to proceed, despite the fact that these projects are no longer within the competence of the Municipality.

Regarding the ongoing projects and the question raised by Mr. Smyrniotis, Mr. Tzoumis said: “Populism must have a limit. He said that the city is impassable due to the works. Tell us what project is making the city impassable. The only project affecting traffic was that of Agios Vassiliou Square and that was reasonable. At the moment, the only project that creates traffic problems is the natural gas project, which is necessary and not related to the Municipality”, while he added: “There are indeed some delays in the projects, but many factors play a role in this. In recent years with the crisis and material increases these factors have increased. All over Greece there are delays in projects also due to late payments”.

“We are trying with our own money, to facilitate the structures, to continue, to work, until the money comes”, he said immediately afterwards.

Regarding Mr. Angelakos and the issue he raised regarding the strays, he stated: “The truth is – as I proved yesterday with documents – that Philodimos gave money to the Municipality, to buy four specific things. They slander the work that is done in the Municipality of Tripoli for the homeless. Is there any citizen today who does not consider that the problem with strays has been solved to a large extent? At the moment, the Municipality of Tripoli has one of the best shelters in the country, where the animals live in excellent condition. The shelter is open on some days for anyone who wants to go to see with their own eyes how things are. From now on, anyone who slanders, will get the corresponding answer”.

Afterwards, the Mayor gave answers to questions about various projects that are underway in the city of Tripoli (Basiakou Square, Kolokotroni Square, Sehiou Square, etc.).

Finally, he referred to the traffic study and the update that will be done, but also to what the Municipality had done with regard to the energy part (the contract to change all the light fixtures etc. is at the auditing conference).
