Yannis Tsimponidis: The toxicity of herbicides is a scourge for anemones

--

As a continuation of a previous article on the usefulness of greens, o
our well-known fellow resident Vassilis Exarchos Agronomist-Msc-Candidate
Doctor of Soil Science, intervenes once again on her subject
toxicity of herbicides to kiwifruit. According to him the
toxicities especially in young Actinidia estates are endless. The
kiwi due to its physiology (intense transpiration, high hydraulics
vascular conductance and superficial root system), is very
prone to toxicity from herbicides especially after the beginnings
April when the intense growth of the plant begins (where in some
cases we have an increase in sprouts up to 10 cm per day).
So any chemical substance (in our case herbicides
), passes either through its green tissues or through the root inside
of the kiwi plant.
Very fast (compared to other fruit carriers) resulting in
partial toxicity to large plants and total toxicity is produced
to the little ones. Lots of fledgling estates that aren’t doing well as prime suspects
can be considered climate change (kiwi suffers a lot
easily water stress) combined with partial toxicity from
herbicide.
In photo No. 1 you see the main conclusions of toxicity:
1) Torsion of the penile shaft
2) chlorotic leaves (yellow)
3) leaves that make an internal twist like a "mug"
4) cachectic growth of plants which do not wither but remain stagnant
5) greater symptoms on the lower leaves (the old ones) and not on the upper ones
(new leaves).
But because according to Mr. Exarchos these symptoms are also from
other causes or there is more than one symptom, it is necessary
great experience to find out more exactly what the problem is.

In photo No. 2, Mr. Exarchos in an autopsy of anemone toxicity
in Meliki Imathia together with producers and in collaboration with
Emeritus Professor of Weedology Dr. Ilias Eleftherohorinos.
On the occasion of the article, Mr. Exarchos proposes: NO IMPLEMENTATION
OF HERBICIDES ON ACTINIDS UP TO 4 YEARS OF AGE and suggests
MUTTING if possible….on all estates since the benefits of
the greens, as he developed in a previous article (both in his microclimate
estate as much as in the organic substance, and the structure of the soil )is
huge.
