Her orange veil African dust it still makes its “appearance” in the Attic sky in the morning hours. In particular, the transport of African dust that affects our country will gradually begin to decrease from the morning, but a significant decrease in concentrations is predicted from noon onwards, at which point it will be limited to the east, with dust visible even early in the morningi.

However, yesterday the increased concentrations of dust in the atmosphere created an orange veil, which covered the entire country, creating suffocating weather scene. At the same time, there was also an increase in the number of patients with respiratory problems in hospitals, with pulmonologists recommending caution and limiting movement for vulnerable groups.

The eerie scene was also captured in a post by meteorologist Kostas Lagouvardou on Facebook. Uploading a photo from the Observatory in Penteli, he writes in his post: “Our colony on Mars».

As can be seen in photos and videos from Atticaan orange veil covered the Basin yesterdaywith the area around the Parliament and the Acropolis being covered in dust.

The situation was also difficult in areas of Ilia, Messinia and Crete, with the African dust hiding the sky.

The… thirty-dirty of Kolydas

According to the director of EMY, Thodoris Kolydasthe African dust will begin to recede from Wednesday morning, marking the dust cocktail with high temperatures as “thirty-dirty”.

The African dust storm as captured by satellite

New satellite images show the extent of the African dust phenomenon that completely suffocated Greece. Satellite data from the American NASA Aqua satellite, which passed over our country on Tuesday morning, show in particular in high resolution the intense wave of African dust “Minerva red” that took place in the Eastern Mediterranean area affecting Greece to a very large extent .

The shallow low in the Sirte area moving towards Greece carried very large amounts of African dust, making the air quality very difficult and creating an eerie scene with orange skies.

Apart from the African dust, very high temperatures were recorded in areas of Southern Greece and mainly in Crete, where the highest temperature was recorded in Falasarna of Chania – 36.6°C.

The African dust wave “Minerva red” it has not only affected Greece. It is recalled that air traffic was suspended yesterday in Eastern Libya due to a strong sandstorm coming from the Sahara, which was also the reason why public services and educational institutions were temporarily closed, according to local Authorities.

A problem was created at all the airports in the region, especially at Benina in Benghazi, where the runway was covered by a thick layer of sand.
