The merchant was pretending to be a man from Laconia, managing to trick at least two people in Thessaly and Central Greece and extract large quantities of walnuts from them, in events that had unfolded a year ago, in the Spring of 2023.

Specifically, the Elassona Police Department investigated 3 cases of fraud, of which 2 committed and 1 attempted, while a case file was filed against a citizen and his so far unknown accomplices.

The case concerns a man from Laconia, who, pretending to be a fruit merchant, contacted the victims by phone and convinced them to sell him quantities of walnuts, sending them to indicated points. The “entrepreneur” even promised that, allegedly, he would repay them to their bank accounts. But, the unsuspecting cultivators waited in vain. The man received the merchandise and became a smoker, with authorities finally being led to identify him nearly a year later.
