THE Hezbollah announced on Tuesday night that it had launched an attack with “dozens” of rockets against him Israel after two civilians were killed in an “Israeli” shelling of a house in the southern city of Hanin Lebanon.

Hezbollah fighters launched “dozens of Katyusha rockets” towards the northern part of Israel, “in retaliation for the attacks of the Israeli enemy (…) on civilian homes, such as in the massacre of Hanin”, the relevant announcement states.

Lebanon’s official news agency (NNA) reported that the Israeli attack killed a woman in her 50s and a 12-year-old girl, while six other people were injured.

“Enemy fighter jets launched two air-to-ground missiles against a two-story house, which they completely destroyed,” NNA reported. The victims were members of a family that had not left their home even though Israeli strikes in the area have intensified in recent months.

Since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas on October 7, there have been almost daily hostilities between the Israeli army and Lebanon’s Hezbollah, which supports the Palestinian Islamist movement. Israeli strikes during this period have killed 380 people, of which 277 have been confirmed to be Hezbollah fighters and 76 civilians, according to a tally by Lebanese security services. In Israel, 19 people have been killed, eleven soldiers and eight civilians, according to an AFP tally.
