ITE accepts proposals for the Award for Outstanding University Teaching in memory of V. Xanthopoulos-St. Air ticket for 2024

ITE announces for the 33rd year the Outstanding University Teaching Award in memory of Vassilis Xanthopoulos and Stefanos Pneumatikos.

The President of ITE, prof. Nektarios Tavernarakis stated in this regard: “The Technology and Research Foundation wanting to honor and keep alive his memory, contribution, and sacrifice Vassilis Xanthopoulos and his Stefanos Pneumatikos, professors of the University of Crete and members of the ITE who were murdered in Heraklion on the evening of November 27, 1990 while jointly teaching an advanced seminar, established the Award for Outstanding University Teaching in their memory. The Award has been presented annually since 1991 as a moral award to outstanding university teachers, selected by the Award Committee, whose members cover a wide range of disciplines.

For 2024proposals that fall within the thematic circle of are accepted Physicists Scientist (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Sciences, Polytechnic Schools, etc.). Closing date is Friday, June 28, 2024.

The President of the Award Committee, Prof. Maria Efthymiou highlights the definition of Outstanding Teaching as described in the Award statute:

“The concept of Excellent University Teaching includes all those activities that open scientific paths to the student, inspire and guide him in research, and make him a member of the scientific ethos and the selfless search for truth.”

The award can be received by faculty members of the Greek AEIs, specialist scientists and other teaching staff, members of research centers with university teaching work, as well as those who previously had any of the above qualities (e.g., emeritus professors). The award, however, is only given to living people.

Proposals are submitted by a person or persons (e.g. teachers or students) who are familiar with the teaching work of those proposed. The proposal should preferably include a letter justifying why the nominee is eligible to receive the particular award accompanied by a curriculum vitae.
