He was arrested while trying to put out the fire!

--

Yesterday, an elderly man was found in the detention center, on whose plot and outside it two outbreaks occurred of fire.

Men of the Fire Service, who were also on foot yesterday due to the weather conditions, received information about a fire in the area of the Pangriti Stadium in Heraklion. Rushing in, they found 2 hearths – one on a plot owned by an elderly man, which also contained arable land, and the other outside the property, in rubbish on the hillside.

The Fire Department estimated, based on the evidence, that the second fire started from the first and proceeded to arrest the elderly man, whom he actually “succeeded” while trying to put out the flames with a hose.

The arrested person was taken to the Prosecutor, referred and tried at the Autoforo Three-member Criminal Court of Heraklion, however he was acquitted as the fires were of small extent and there was no danger to foreign property. However, he denied that he caused the fire.

It is noted that the fire protection season has started prematurely this year, due to the weather conditions favoring the occurrence of fire, while the Fire Department patrols are frequent, which exhausts the rigor in the context of safeguarding human lives and property, as reported by cretalive.gr.
