The Rhodope cherry trees were hit by widespread hail on Sunday 21/4/2024 and according to the estimates of experts in cherry crops in Dymi, Folia, Rizoma, Thamna, Agiasma and Sosti, the greatest damages are found in approximately 160,000 trees, while the damage to cherries is estimated at over 90%, resulting in a noticeable decrease of this year’s production.
On Monday 22/4/2024 Rodopis MP Ilhan Ahmed visited the affected areas together with ELGA’s supervisor Mr. Sergio Katsikis, where he saw first hand the extent of the destruction. He then contacted the head of ELGA in Alexandroupoli, Mr. Dimitris Pantazis, who assured that he would also same on-site inspection in the next few days to immediately start the process of recording the compensation beneficiaries.

They were joined by the deputy governor of the Primary Sector and Livestock Ritvan Hatzi Memet, the mandated adviser on Digital Transition and Electronic Governance and Land Policy RitvanMollaisa, the regional adviser Ahmet OsmanPehlivan and officials from the Rodopi DAOK.
Local government must support the primary sector and show appropriate seriousness in working with all elected officials and local bodies without creating the impression that it is biased or acting on bad advice.
In this case, the main question arises about the role of Mr. Ritvan Molla Isa and his relationship with the cherries….
