Giorgos Lyggeridis: How the murderous attack against the MAT in Rentis was organized and carried out

The Hellenic Police speak of a “very well-organized plan by Olympiakos fans” with the participation of 34 people, in the context of the investigation of the much-lauded case of the incidents at Rentis last December, outside the “Melina Markouri” stadium, which resulted in the fatal wounding of police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis.

The “34” – including a minor– who are considered members of a criminal organization according to EL.AS., gathered on the afternoon of December 7th outside the stadium “C. Karaiskakis” namely outside the VIP sliding door, where they remained for about an hour. Their plan, according to ELAS, was to load naval flares, hand flares, improvised explosive devices, gasoline and dynamite into their cars and then transport them to the “Melina Merkouri” stadium.

A total of four cars were used by “G. Karaiskakis” to “Melina Merkouri” and – as appears from the recorded conversations held by EL.AS. – among the “action group” there were people who expressed the their concern about whether there is audio-visual material from the Olympiakos stadium that identifies either them, or the preparation to move to Rentis. That is why some used rental cars, in order to make their possible identification more difficult.

It makes an impression that – according to the EL.AS communication, which led to the 67 arrests on Monday (22/4) – one of the alleged leaders of the criminal organization, had knowledge of the points that the Police had requested and received video material for her research.

After the “34” arrived at the “Melina Merkouri” stadium where the volleyball match between Olympiakos – Panathinaikos was being held, the arrival of at least two of the alleged leaders of the criminal organization, who while in the stadium are said to they decide that the attack against the MAT will take place after the 1st set of the match. To these two “instructors” of the murderous attack of December 7th, the off-field “distribution” of the naval flares, one of which fatally injured the left leg of the police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis, is also attributed. In fact, they were put in charge of the attack as they were allegedly in front of the “strike team” and gave the trigger by throwing a Molotov cocktail at the police.

For EL.AS., the conversations between those involved after the murderous attack constitute an “admission” that “based on the weapons that the perpetrators had at their disposal, their purpose was to kill a Policeman”. Yes, after “achieving their goal” posted a photo on Instagram “which shows their satisfaction at the happy result for them.”

In particular, the telephone communication carried out a few days after the death of the police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis by one of the defendants with his friend, is as follows:

• Friend: And straight shot huh?
• Accused: Yes.
• Friend: And whoever gets the favor?
• Accused: 10 people went there and emptied everything. Here you morons had 40 AK dynamite. It wasn’t just nautical, it was a lot that day. Do you know what it’s like to eat 40 dynamite now?
• Friend: So they went to die? They went to kill.
• Accused: Yes, they went to fuck the MATs and there were few MATs.

Finally, it is worth noting that in the transmission of EL.AS. the fact that all the alleged perpetrators “proving once again that they have excellent knowledge of the methods used by the Greek Police in order to identify perpetrators, they burned part of their clothing in the toilets of the stadium while some of them, outside the stadium, discarded part of their clothing or changed their clothes with other perpetrators Olympiacos fans, in order to make the work of the Police as difficult as possible First of all, their possible identification with found video footage becomes impossible.”
