Pre-election period in… Iran of the Balkans!

There are less than 50 days left before the polls open for the European elections. Specifically, in 47 days, on June 9, the country’s electorate will be asked to decide who will be the “fathers of Europe” in Brussels for the coming years.

The TV panels have caught fire as morning – noon – night the candidates are… paraded through the channels claiming the vote for their party as well, but mainly for themselves.

In most of them logic is ignored and with it the real issues concerning the European elections are ignored. We rarely hear any candidate making the connection between Greece and the European Union.

Instead it has become… “homeland – religion – family” is candy in the mouth of most and all the last days it becomes one battle for… which party is closer to God! Don’t laugh. This is the contradiction of the days.

And if this feud was about the Hellenic Solution and Victory, Velopoulos and Natsios… the harm is small. Laughter is good for our lives and both provide us with it in large quantities. Unfortunately the “privilege” of the relationship with God is claimed by ND and SYRIZA. That is, the ruling party and the Official Opposition party. This is no laughing matter.

The “big crosses” and prayers will have their due

On the contrary it is sad. Instead of having a European orientation, instead of the agenda being about Greece’s position in the EU and how it will be able to solve the many and serious problems, the… fight takes place over the candles, the icons and the manuals.

With Holy Week just around the corner it is now obvious that the “graphmeter” will break all the counters. The political panels will be taken to temples across the country. The “big crosses” and prayers will have their due.

The point is that can the world judge the truth by… theater? Can he understand “religious bigotry” and how parties try through faith to… grab votes and crosses?

It is possible that in 2024 the political battle will take place on such terms and the pre-election period will have the Archbishop and the priests of the whole country on the agenda.

With all this, the characterization of Greece as… the Iran of the Balkans does not seem heavy to us.
