A suffocating atmosphere prevailed throughout Tuesday in the greater part of the Greek territory due to the African dust.
The phenomenon started from Sunday afternoon, but its peak was from Tuesday noon onwards.
On Tuesday afternoon and shortly before nightfall, the sky in Attica was orange in color and visibility was quite limited.
In the western Peloponnese the phenomenon is recorded more strongly, as of course in Crete which is closer to the African continent.
However, the temperature is not the same throughout Greece, despite the fact that southerly winds are blowing.
In Crete, up to 35 degrees Celsius were recorded, while in Athens it did not exceed 24.
The scientists recommended that vulnerable groups of the population, such as those with heart disease and those with respiratory problems, avoid unnecessary movements.
Meteorologists say that gradually the phenomena will begin to recede from midday on Wednesday.
