Traffic and parking “suffocate” Monodendri

There are reasons to be happy but also to worry in the coastal areas of the former Municipality of Vrachneika, as on the one hand economic growth is observed mainly due to the focus but on the other hand traffic is increasing which causes traffic congestion.

The residents of Monodendri united in front of these changes that make their daily life problematic and sent a letter to the responsible vice-mayor – thematic and spatial – Anastasia Togiopoulou in order to find solutions. In particular, they point out in their letter that the problems that have mainly burdened the area are focused on the road network and infrastructure with key points having incomplete markings as well as delineation, the insufficient policing to regulate vehicle traffic, the increased decibels during the hours common quiet and the parking areas.

Essentially, what the residents are asking for is to meet their demands regarding daily policing on peak days and hours, to have the beach one-way during the summer season from the afternoon to 2 a.m., to respect music limits, but also to let the Municipality lease plots for parking vehicles.

The representatives of the residents, Christos Psittas, Yiannis Kiourtis, Vasilios Lagios and Kostas Michalopoulos state in their letter:

“Daily life and quality of life means following traffic rules for cars, motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians. Our place is unfortunately not friendly, nor accessible especially to people with special needs, the elderly, cyclists, etc. which exposes us all irreparably. We demand and expect the immediate satisfaction of our above requests for the solution of the above problems that have plagued us for so many years and have greatly reduced the quality of our lives as well as disrupting our mental and physical health.

Finally, we hold you responsible for any tragic event as a result of your negligence in not following the applicable legislation.”
