Educational visit to the School of Social Sciences and Humanities of the University of Western Macedonia in Kastoria

The executives of his project team Active Youth Club of Florina (OENEF) Europe Direct Western Macedoniavisited her Wednesday, April 10, 2024the Department of Communication and Digital Media, her School of Social Sciences and Humanities of University of Western Macedonia, with the aim of informing students in the context of the plan “Empowering the Young Generation: Youth Participation in European Elections” (YEEEs24)”.

The project is a unique opportunity to create an informed European electorate in order to increase democratic participation in the Region of Western Macedonia, one of the most Eurosceptic regions of the European Union. The aim of the plan, through the educational visits/actions, is to approach and sensitize young people (17-22 years old) to understand the special value of their participation in the 2024 European elections, but also to understand in depth the role and democratic values governing the European Union.

The event was held at University of Western Macedoniain the Amphitheater 1, in the area of ​​Fourka, in Kastoria. He announced the start of the event the president of the Active Youth Group of Western Macedonia, Dr. Konstantinos Filippidiswho addressed a short greeting and informed the students about the priorities and importance of the “Empowering the Young Generation: Youth Participation in the European Elections” (YEEEs24) project.

THE Dr. Konstantinos Filippidis together with his scientific partner Active Youth Group of Western Macedonia – Europe Direct of Western Macedonia, Eleni Konstantinoupresented the points of interest for strengthening the participation of young people in the European elections of June 2024.

The structure of the event was based on:

a) proposal regarding the establishment of the European Union and its evolution. The presentation focused on how the EU works, the institutions that make it up and the benefits that a European citizen enjoys. The students also had the opportunity to learn about the upcoming European elections on June 9, 2024, a unique moment when we can all collectively decide on the future of the European Union. At the same time, the students were invited to register on the online platform “mazi.eu”, which plays a decisive role in maintaining a continuous dialogue between the European Parliament and the European citizens of the region of Western Macedonia.

b) in an interactive online Kahoot game, in which students had the opportunity to answer questions about the European Union and the European elections. The winners were awarded with commemorative gifts and printed informational material from OENEF.
