Research by the MRB, presented during an event at the Megaron Musikis on gender-based violence, showed heartbreaking data on the phenomenon in Greece.

According to the company’s findings, 42.5% report that they have received sexual harassment, while 52% report that they have experienced gender discrimination.

Furthermore, the research showed the following:

  • 63% of the sample states that motherhood negatively affects their professional development.
  • 70% emphasize that it is more difficult for women to hold positions of responsibility than men.
  • 26% of women face mental health issues
  • 17.5% state that they have suffered gender-based violence, with the head of the MRB emphasizing that in absolute numbers, 400,000 women in Greece have been subjected to violence.
  • 67% of women report that fashion does not promote realistic standards for the average woman.

Kefalogiannis: “The road to equality is long, but steps are being taken”

“Despite the fact that the road to equality between the two sexes is long, at the global level steps are being taken towards equality, in some places quickly, in others slowly, something is changing” said the Minister of Tourism during the event on the theme “Women who dare” , Olga Kefalogianni.

Focusing on Greece and whether progress has been made on the gender equality front compared to the previous year, Mrs. Kefalogianni underlined the following:

“Unfortunately, few things, despite the efforts being made. The dramatic fact is that gender-based violence, even in its most extreme form, continues, with many femicides in Greece still recorded in 2024. The murders of women are truly shocking. Beyond the acts of unimaginable hatred by the femicides, serious shortcomings in the handling of these incidents are revealed. The silence of those who know the situations that precede a femicide also comes to the surface. Chronic pathologies come to the surface, which highlight the magnitude of the problem. Unfortunately, cases of domestic violence, which are experienced by women, but also by children, are also continuous.

From the stage of the special event organized by Harper’s Bazaar and WomanToc in collaboration with the Center for Policy Studies on Gender and Equality, the Minister of Tourism called all women to action in order to raise awareness in society towards highlighting the advantages of of women: empathy, the ability to compose, solidarity, ingenuity, order, love, the lady minister underlined.
