(no. 233/23-4-2024 meeting)

The Senate of the University of Patras at its meeting today 233/23-4-2024 and after learning of the events that took place in the Department of Civil Engineering, where a group of students assaulted Mr. President of the Department, protesting the summons to a hearing of students who participated in recent occupations states the following:

The Senate unreservedly condemns the exercise of physical and verbal violence against Mr. President of the Civil Engineering Department of our University. These actions have no place in our University.

Especially on the issue of summoning students who participated in the sit-ins, Mr. President has the absolute right and responsibility, defending the Public University from acts of violation of the fundamental rights of members of the University Community, such as the sit-ins, to take the legal actions and, if find a violation of the law and regulation, to impose disciplinary sanctions.

It should be noted in this regard that the Senate, during the occupations, had declared that “Hindering the operation of the Public University is an illegal act, which supports the arguments of those who systematically discredit and degrade it”.
