Councilor Yiannis Troupis, during the meeting of the Tripoli Municipal Council on Monday, April 23, asked for the floor and, speaking in a hyper-factional way, as he pointed out, proposed that the meetings of the House deal more with the development issues of the Municipality and less with the projects that have be launched, which, as he underlined, “will be completed”, after a discussion with many objections about the projects in the Municipality and the problems that are presented, things that are discussed over and over again at the meetings for no real reason.

“I think and I will try to speak in a hyper-factional way – that we have been elected for a reason. Some people voted for us. It’s tiring, personally for me, to deal with what happened. I believe that when a family, a business, an organization, the new Board of Directors of the Municipality of Tripoli is established, especially in financially critical periods, we should not deal with what happened. We will be busy for days, and we will exchange accusations or compliments. Let’s look at the development of the Municipality. Obviously mistakes will be made. The elected, all of them, want the good of the country. The projects will be done, belatedly and with some problems, they will be done, but we must look at the result, look at what was done and not by whom it was done, and if it is possible, to be a prototype and become a point of reference for other municipalities. Our DEWA is in a better place compared to other Municipalities, for example. And since, as you said, investments will be made, and the children must begin to be educated, I propose that we set up a committee that will deal with issues of innovation, problems of the Municipality, drawing up programs, European programs, to cooperate with private individuals and with other institutions of city. I had received 4 new children from Tripoli, who brought development proposals”.

We have to deal with them, beyond the trivial, the dogs and the squares. I suggest that we set up a committee, even informally, that will bring results.

The mayor of Tripoli, Kostas Tzioumis, replied: “We are also a model for homeless people, not only in DEVAT. The creation of committees is foreseen. We can see it at the next board meeting. There are children with enormous potential and know-how and we collaborate with some of them to help the Municipality. We did it, we will continue to do it. The day-to-day work is not done through the board. We will discuss it in the next council.”

Finally, Mr. Troupis said that he will try to bring a written proposal in the next meeting to move things faster.
