The code name “Swords of Damocles” was the major operation of the sports violence department of Attica Security to arrest the criminal organization of hooligans behind the murder of the policeman Giorgos Lyggeridis.
A total of 63 defendants are alleged to be members of the criminal organization while the police carried out searches in 87 houses where, in addition to “loot” of other groups, they found weapons, magazine, cartridges, pen pistol, hoods, bats, firecrackers, flares, but also quantities of drugs.
Attica Security managed to establish the role of each of those arrested in the incidents, who gave the order, who supplied the explosives and what was the role of the leaders of the criminal organization inside the stadium.
Bring gasoline and dynamite
“We have a war… cops, we will kill you all, Nea Smyrni needs you again”, was what the killers of Lyggeridis shouted at the time of the attack.
150 people were in the attack and the case file states how H.M. and K.P. they instructed the two brothers to go before the episodes to get gas and as E.X. he went to his house to bring dynamite.
They returned with 10 plastic petrol bottles and 10 dynamite. According to the authorities’ investigation, the original plan for the attack belongs to one of the people in the leadership group who specifically gave the following order: “Let’s join the cops.”
The last minute change of plan
In fact, the original plan called for the episodes to take place at the beginning of the match, but the leadership intervened at the last minute and decided to take place at the end of the 1st set. In the video that the authorities have in their hands, it appears that two members of the criminal organization are talking to each other on the pitch, making a phone call somewhere and leaving the side entrance of the stadium.
A few minutes later, two other members of E.O. the elements of which are described in the case file, make sense to the organized people who were at the specific point of the stand to go out of the field to attack the platoon.
New research on relationships with the night world
The case file includes information in every detail about the past of each of those arrested and includes telephone conversations in which it appears that immediately after the incidents what they were interested in was that they had rained Molotov cocktails on the platoon.
Now a new investigation will be opened for the authorities for the possibility that some of the arrested are related to the cases of the night, while they are still looking for one of the leading members of the criminal organization.
