On Saturday 27/04/2024, a voluntary blood donation will take place in the center of the city of Heraklion, specifically in the atrium of Loggia from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Voluntary blood donation takes place every Saturday. This is a joint effort to donate blood, which is organized by the Pancreatic Association of Voluntary Blood Donors and Organ Donors “Hematokritis”, with the support of the Municipality of Heraklion.

In this joint effort, everyone is invited to participate. Blood donation is for those who want to give blood. The experienced medical and nursing staff of the blood donation unit of the Venizeli Hospital carry out the blood draws, while volunteers from Hematokritis are present to answer any questions. Importantly, there is no blood bank, nor blood management. Each Voluntary Blood Donor has the possibility to use the units he has donated in the event of a future need for blood, his or his family’s.

All healthy men/women aged 18-65 can donate blood. They must be rested, have had a light breakfast and if they do not have a blood donor card, have their AMKA or police ID with them.

Those who have any infection cannot donate blood. The use of a mask inside the blood donation unit is recommended.

At the same time, there will be information on hematopoietic cell donation (bone marrow) and organ donation.

It is noted that in order to fully inform and empower blood donors before donating blood, “Blood Donation Meetings” (webinars) are held online by “Aimatocritis”, on days and times that are announced on the www.aimatocritis.gr page, a model action implemented with a donation from the Public Beneficial Foundation for Social and Cultural Work KIKPE within the framework of the “Points of Support” program co-financed by 10 non-profit organizations.
