--

A veil of African dust suffocates Athens today, creating a suffocating atmosphere combined with the prevailing heat.

As you will see in the images below, visibility in the capital is limited and after difficulty one can see all the way to the sea. Similar images prevail in other regions of the country.

The Hellenic Pulmonology Society has warned that African dust can have significant effects on the health of the country’s inhabitants, mainly through the degradation of air quality

This scene will continue until this evening, while from Wednesday morning the African dust will head to the east, while from Thursday and Friday the atmosphere will clear.

The African dust is leaving tomorrow

According to the prognostic data of meteo.gr/National Observatory of Athens, on Tuesday 23/04, in addition to the greatly increased concentrations of dust that will limit visibility, mud rains are expected to occur mainly in the north and west of the country.

On Wednesday 24/04 the turn of the winds to the west will result in the reduction of dust in the Dodecanese and its progressive removal towards the east.

The forecast maps below show:

– With red shades, the concentration of dust in the atmosphere during the midday and evening hours of Tuesday 23/04.

– With yellow shades the areas where mud rains will occur during the same time intervals.
