“Coast Connections are needed to make Sigri Port and the Kalloni – Sigri road axis meaningful”

The Member of Parliament of PASOK – KINAL, Mr. Paraskevaidis Panagiotis, submitted a report to the competent Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, regarding the necessary coastal ferry connections of Sigri Port with the ports of Mainland Greece.

SUBJECT: Coastal Ferry Connections of the Port of Sigri, Lesvos – Resolution of the Municipal Council of the Municipality of West Lesvos

Mr. Minister,

I submit to you Decision No. 117/2024 of the Municipal Council of the Municipality of West Lesbos, which requests the connection of the Port of Sigri with the ports of mainland Greece.

I completely agree with the above request and as I stated in writing, before the arrival of the Prime Minister, for the inauguration of the Kalloni – Sigri road axis, this road project will receive High Added Value, if it is connected to a network of coastal ferry connections of the Port Sigri with the ports of Mainland Greece (Lavrio, Rafina, Volos, Thessaloniki, Alexandroupoli) which will ensure a short travel time combined with the routing of modern ships.

Mr. Minister,

You know very well that we cannot talk about the Development of Tourism in Lesvos, and in this case, Northwestern Lesvos, with a weekly route, in the summer season, from Piraeus – Mykonos – Mesta Chios – Sigri and a travel time of 10 – 11 hours!! !!

Lesbos, if you want to give real content to the concepts of Development and Island-Regional Policy, needs two (2) coastal ferry routes, Lavrio or Rafina – Sigri, with a modern ship and a travel time of 3.5 – 4 hours, which on the 1 time, it is proposed to join the subsidized lines program.

Also, connection with one (1) route per week with Thessaloniki, Alexandroupoli and Volos.

Thus, the Investments in the construction of Sigri Port and the Kalloni – Sigri road axis will gain real value.

Please, therefore, inform me about the General Planning of Coastal connections and utilization of the Port of Sigri Lesvos, always aiming at the touristic development of the Island of Lesvos.
