The restoration plan for damage caused by the extreme weather phenomena “Daniel” and “Elias”, to School, Railway and Road Infrastructures in Thessaly and Central Greece, was presented today in Mouzaki Karditsa by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport , responsible for Infrastructure Nikos Tachiaos and the General Secretary of Infrastructure Konstantinos Magoulas, in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The event was attended by the Regional Governor of Thessaly Dimitris Kouretas and the Regional Governor of Central Greece Fanis Spanos, as well as the President of the Union of Greek Shipowners, Melina Travlou, who delivered a greeting.

The presentation concerns the projects that will be carried out by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and its supervised entities, such as “Building Infrastructure SA”, following coordination with the relevant Ministries and the Local Government, in order to take care not only of the restoration of damage, but above all the higher resilience of transport and infrastructure.

According to the political leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the restoration, with higher resilience of the infrastructure, undertaken by the Ministry, approaches or even exceeds 1.4 billion euros.

Of these, 900 million euros relate to road projects, 463 million euros to railway projects, namely, the central railway network and the sections Larissa – Volos and Paleofarsalos – Kalambaka, as well as 33 schools, the cost of restoration of which was assumed by the Union Hellenic Shipowners (EEE).

Based on the damage record, the resources will be allocated as follows:

  • 33% of the amount in the Magnesia Regional Unit,
  • 25% in the Regional Unit of Trikala,
  • 21% in the Regional unit of Karditsa,
  • 9.5% in the Larissa Regional Unit,
  • 9.5% in the Regional unit of Evia and
  • 2% in the Regional Unit of Fthiotida.

Based on the special provision passed in the Parliament and which allows the implementation of projects of great importance in a shorter time, it is estimated that the contracting of the projects will be done in the summer, while in the part concerning the restoration of the school units, significant progress has already been made.
